Ousmane starts his Royal Society Career Development Fellowship!
Congratulations to Ousmane Dao, who has started a four-year Royal Society Career Development Fellowship in the lab! Ousmane was named in the second cohort of Royal Society Career Development Fellows, and his project, “Functional dissection of photorespiration in diverse algae enabled by high-throughput screening and subcellular localisation”, will explore how photorespiration works across a wide range of algae. It builds on Ousmane’s recent work showing that the CO₂-concentrating mechanism and photorespiration operate together in green algae as they adjust to low CO₂.
Ousmane will be joined on the project by Henrique Plihal Ferreira, who is working with him as a technician. Henrique is no stranger to the lab, having first joined us for a summer internship in 2024 and then returned for his final year project. Congratulations Ousmane, and welcome back Henrique!
